About Michael

Michael Calles is a proud fourth-generation Arizonan, deeply rooted in the community he has called home his entire life. A graduate of Alhambra High School, Michael went on to earn his degree from Arizona State University and later achieved a Master’s degree from Northern Arizona University—further strengthening his commitment to leadership, education, and personal growth. Michael dedicated 25 years to the Phoenix Police Department, retiring in 2018. Following his retirement, he served two years as an Investigator with the State of Arizona, continuing his commitment to public service. In 2022, he returned to the Phoenix Police Department as a Civilian Investigator, once again supporting the safety and well-being of the community.

Michael also answered the call to serve his nation with distinction. He dedicated nine years to the U.S. military—seven years in the Air Force and two years in the Army—earning the discipline and resilience that continue to guide his approach to service today.

For more than 20 years, Michael invested in the lives of young people as a high school baseball coach. He concluded his coaching career at his alma mater, Alhambra High School, where he inspired student-athletes both on and off the field with lessons of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.

Michael is a devoted husband and father of four children—three sons and one daughter—along with two stepchildren and three step-grandchildren. His wife has dedicated more than 30 years to Special Education and now serves as the Senior Director of Pre-K through 12 Services at the Foundation for Blind Children, helping children and families thrive through education and support. The Calles family reflects the same values of service and hard work that Michael has carried throughout his own life. His oldest son proudly serves as a Glendale Firefighter. His daughter is a nurse, dedicated to caring for others. His middle son is an officer in the United States Marine Corps. His youngest son is a proud member of the United States Navy. His stepdaughter owns her own beauty salon, building success through entrepreneurship. His stepson is a journeyman electrician, contributing skill and expertise to his trade. Family values are at the heart of everything Michael does, driving his commitment to leave a stronger, safer, and more vibrant community for future generations.

Michael is ready to bring fresh ideas and dedicated leadership to the residents of Glendale, with a special focus on the Barrel District. His priorities are centered on the people—ensuring their voices are heard, their needs are met, and their neighborhoods thrive. With decades of experience in public service, education, and community involvement, Michael is prepared to deliver practical solutions and meaningful results. Commitment.
